About Taranaki Relocations
Great mates from way back, Paul Hawkins and Dave Matthews first met while working as managers for the same multinational removals firm in different parts of the country.
A shared industry passion and true entrepreneurial spirits led the two to combine forces and in 2005, Paul and Dave moved their families to picturesque New Plymouth to create Taranaki Relocations.
Operating out of a family garage, it was humble beginnings for the duo, who started with nothing but two pre-paid cell phones and a hand-me-down laptop.
Narrowly missing Yellow Pages advertising didn’t deter the two, who set about creating flyers, which they hand-delivered to every home for sale in the city.
Work came in surprisingly quick, so Paul and Dave were forced to hit the ground running! Top priority was to sort a uniform, create business cards and find professional furniture blankets - quick-smart!
Their enterprise began with a second-hand truck, plenty of long hours, late nights and a strong focus on providing the best customer service possible.
The pair’s reliable reputation and strong work ethic soon got noticed when larger multinational companies invited Paul and Dave to represent their interests in the region.
Now, a decade on, and each with more than 20 years’ industry experience, the duo continue to co-own the small but booming business, which includes an impressive fleet of professional trucks, a highly secure onsite storage facility and close affiliations with premier international removal companies. There’s even a separate truck rentals business - Taranaki Relocations Truck Rentals, which is adjacent to the Taranaki Relocations office - catering to those who choose to shift independently.
Renowned for their refusal to use contractors and temporary staff, Paul and Dave credit the firm’s popularity to their exceptional group of highly trained, loyal and conscientious staff, which the pair are very proud of.
To this day, the majority of enquiries come from general word of mouth or the return of satisfied customers, which has seen the business blossom.
Paul and Dave aren’t aiming to be Taranaki’s largest removals company or the most profitable. Instead, they aspire to give every one of their customers a well-planned, accurately and reasonably priced, hassle-free move – carefully conducted by their reliable and friendly team.
